Havgassens Kabys
The restaurant Havgassens Kabys is located in the small fishing village Lundeborg, in the South Eastern part of Fyn (Funen).
Everything here is homemade and freshly prepared – except from the pickled green tomatoes.
My wish is that the guests come to Havgassens Kabys to get homemade food made from good and fresh ingredients – and enough so that they will not go to bed hungry.
Many of the recipes are my own but I have allowed myself to be inspired from my many years at sea and from travelling all over the world. Hopefully this will give our guest a cuisine experience.
However I also do some old Danish courses and I try to prepare them respectfully according to traditions.
To my best knowledge I sell fine wines at reasonable prices. You will find the pricelist under “Wine & Drinks/Beverages”. I do not treat my guests with food or wine I do not enjoy myself.
I believe that Havgassens Kabys is a place for people to enjoy good meals and fine wine! –
No matter whether you are a gourmand or gourmet.

Lundeborg By Light
On the second Friday in September it is “Lundeborg By Light” where candles illuminate the village and harbour, witch is full of stalls and music. The many visitors and local people enjoy the September night, the lights and listen to the music, visit the many booths and stalls with craft from around the World, homemade products like honey and marmalade, clothes, jewelry and curative products.
Menu
I have six gas burners and two ovens, and the food is always fresh made. It is therefore a great help if you do not order too many different things. If you do so anyhow be prepared to wait a little longer for your meal.
If you order a main course we will always treat you with a plate of tapas and homemade bread witch you can enjoy while the food is being prepared.

Lunch
Havgassens lunch menu is a traditional Danish lunch with herring, filet of fish, meatballs (Risolle) and a possibility of trying genuine Danish open-faced sandwiches with homemade slices of meat, sausages or eggs.
Vegetarian
It is of course also possible to have a vegetarian meal at Havgassens Kabys.

Hi! Welcome to Havgassens Kabys. We have a special children’s menu, but you are also welcome to order a small adult menu for half price.

Chicken breast or meatballs (Rissole) with fried potatoes and “grandmothers frying pan” gravy or with rice and mild curry sauce. – Price: D Kr. 58.-
Fried filet of fish with fried potatoes and home made “remoulade” and lemon. - Price: D Kr. 58.-
Dessert:
Ice with cone. – Price D Kr. 28.-
Activities During Fall Vacation
Each year during the fall vacation Havgassens Kabys offers several activities for children – for instance: a competition in how to make the prettiest pumpkin-head, and concerts for and with children.

Wine & Beverages
Our beverages vary from different kinds of coffee and tea, non-alcoholic bear, soda water, mineral water and milk to spirits, wine and beer.
Wine:
Our wines come from Spain, South Africa, New Zealand and France.
Our favourite is Kanonkop Pinotage from South Africa.
Beer:
We have a broad selection of Danish beer, among others: Havgassen’s own beer – genuine “Fyns Havgasse Bryg” witch is a kind of bock, but it is actually “a Havgasse” because it cannot be compared to anything else and its alcohol content is 7,4 0/00. it is brewed on one of the smallest breweries in Denmark – Refsvindinge bryggeri in the middle of Fyn and this brewery has been owned by the same family since 1885.

About Havgassen
My real name is Anne-Marie Villumsen Mørup Larsen. I was born in Skals, 12 km west of Viborg but during my childhood many holidays was spend on Fyn. However before I settled down on Fyn, I travelled all over the World.
After 8th grade I graduated from a 3-year education as an occasional cook and sandwich maid.
The world was now open to me, and after a job in Aabenraa in Sønderjylland I left for Copenhagen to a restaurant called “Bræddehytten” witch is close to Copenhagen central station, I worked there as a waiter.
After that, I worked in the kitchen in both the Brazilian Embassy and the Venezuelan Embassy in Copenhagen before I went to Amsterdam where I was employed by the American hotel company Howard Johnson.
Back in Copenhagen I was taught about wine at Skjold Burne’s and finally I could realise my childhood dream getting onboard a ship and to see the “seven seas”.
I started as a stewardess on the ferries going from Esbjerg to Harwich cleaning and preparing the cabins.
This got boring and while buying a horse I met the known businessman Låsby Svendsen, who owns “Mundelstrup Kro” near Århus. He talks a lot - much more than me – and he had me look after his restaurant (Mundelstrup Kro). I worked there for four months – four crazy but also enjoyable months. After that I became a waiter at “Hotel Europa” in Århus.
This was my last job on land for 16 years. I was employed at Mærsk and I became chef steward and “havgasse”. My first job in 1976 was as a stewardess but as time went by I worked more and more in the kitchen because of my education as a cook and sandwich maid.
After six months on a school for ship cooks in Ålborg I was chef and during the last eight years on board Mærsk´s ship I worked as a chefsteward.
I left the sea in 1992 and I was the daily leader of “Mærskgården” in Troense on the little island Tåsinge south of Svendborg. “Mærskgården” is a place with flats for older people having been employed by “Mærsk-gruppen”. After ten years here I find it time to move on and to realise my dream of having my own restaurant.
“Havgassens Kabys” opened on the 22nd of March 2002. I have drawings, paintings and small things from around the World, and each thing has a story. Some people say: “What have you got all this for”? But it creates a relaxed atmosphere, and people can enjoy it and feel at home.
My big love, apart from my husband Jens, is my English bulldogs of whom I have three plus our boxer Henry.
In my time off I get involved more and more in the care and welfare of pets and animals – especially dogs and even more so bulldogs. I find it grotesque how human beings mistreat our pets and animals.
I am also a great collector of cookbooks. I have more than 1000 cookbooks from all parts of the World.

We are open every day from the first weekend in April until the end October. The rest of the year we are open most weekends. We are pleased to open for reservations.
